Abstract

The Baodun culture is a late Neolithic culture in the Chendu plain and the adjacent region, dating from 2500~1700 B.C. It fills up the cultural gap between the Neolithic culture and the culture in the period of Xia Shang dynasty and is very important for studying the origin of the Sanxingdui culture. It is characterized by the cluster of cities of large size. And more than ten sites belonging to the Baodun culture have been found in the Chendu plain. In the dissertation we focus on the study of typology and chronology. Furthermore, the dissertation covers the location, natural environment, stratum and structures of typical sites. Based on the study of different aspects of the Baodun culture, we make a conclusion of the development process and characters of different stages of this culture. Finally, in this paper we also explore the social and economical situation, the mode of civilization evolution in the Chendu plain during the late Neolithic period and the culture communication with the neighborhood region.
